what's new?

May 2, 2009
So much for keeping this place updated often. 1/2-day Fridays are coming up in two weeks, so I think Friday's will be my update day. Once I get in the habit of updating on Fridays when I have plenty of time, I think it will be easier to keep it going once we go back to full-day Fridays at the end of Summer.

I signed up for mint.com last night, and after spending just an hour with it, I love it! I can't wait to sit down with Ashley and really get it tailored to our lives.

In trying to keep up with the Jones's, I enrolled in the SANS Security 503 - Intrusion Detection In-Depth OnDemand course. Taking the course via OnDemand means I (work) don't have to spend extra money on travel costs, and I also get 4 months to work with the material online, in addition to the awesome books and DVD that came in the mail this week. Oh yeah, I also get a FREE Dell Mini netbook, pre-loaded for the course! I was told it takes about two weeks to get the Mini, and it has been about a week, and I'm going nuts in anticipation of what is going to come pre-loaded. I'll get some pics of the Mini up here once I get it.

To go along with the SANS course, I went to configure my home network with a second public IP address, but come to find out, my ISP no longer provides it's customers with multiple public IP addresses at no cost. They want $7/month for another IP. Yeah, like I want to give them any more money. We spend enough with them when you add in the digital cable and home phone. Maybe a phone call to negotiate is in the works.

Until next time.

slacking

April 2, 2009
So, I realized that I have been slacking when it comes to site updates. Work has been crazy busy and my free time has been spent taking care of things other than this site. Never fear, I am here...just not on a set schedule for updates just yet. A couple items of business though...

  1. This is my new site design for the time being. Simple, nothing flashy, trying to keep it un-cluttered.
  2. I've contacted a friend of ours to start working on some possible background patterns or icons for my "online persona". I wanted to get some sort of image "brand" that I can carry across from one site to the next. Check out her work at http://www.stefanieshank.com/.
  3. My latest review for Bjorn3D is out. I got my hands on a Thecus M3800 multimedia NAS and ran it though the paces. Check out the review by clicking the image below.

Diggnation #193

March 13, 2009

Dream jobs - I don't know that there are any true dream jobs out there.
Dad walks in - Parents. Gotta love 'em.
Atlantis - Still a lost city.
LED tunnel - Not impressed. I had high hopes for this video.
Pepsi - I can't wait to get my hands on this stuff. Hopefully it becomes a permanent product.
